The City of Onkaparinga, 30 minutes from Adelaide, is one of the most socially diverse local government areas in South Australia and this website provides information as well as having the ability to put people in touch with all kinds of community services in the region. The website contains three distinct sections corresponding to the family, children, and services areas. Users can quickly navigate between sections using the colourful icons at the top of every page.
The children's area provides a colourful and interactive area to share information about what the city council does, things to do, maps showing the location of services and playgrounds, a chat room, and a Discussion Forum. Users can participate in the Discussion Forum, and add their own fun items, games or things to do.
The family area is similar in structure, providing information about what's on, advice for parenting, an interactive Discussion Forum, links to the Council Library and Information Centre, and a subset of the popular Infoxchange Service Seeker, showing all services located in the Onkaparinga area. Parents can add their own items to the what's on and family links section.
The services section is password protected. Registered Intranet users who log into the section can access their interactive news Infocast and Calendar, an e-Library, local links and webpages, and Discussion Forum. They can also manage their membership details.
All users can submit their email address to receive regular automatically-generated updates from the website. There is also a handy search tool to allow users to quickly locate items of interest from this rich mine of community information.
